In line with the government’s aim to address the specific challenges related to climate change, President Wavel Ramkalawan chaired a meeting with relevant government ministries and agencies, this morning at State House.
The meeting was attended by the Minister for Finance, National Planning and Trade, Mr, Naadir Hassan, the Minister for Lands and Housing and the Minister for Transport, Mr. Antony Derjacques,
In attendance were also technical staff from the other respective ministries and agencies, such as Seychelles Infrastructure Agency, Climate Change Department, Seychelles Land Transport Agency.
Discussions focused on the ongoing projects being implemented to address coastal erosion and flooding in various locations on Mahe, Praslin and La Digue.
The President was apprised of progress on these projects, and their different stages of implementation. The meeting also discussed future projects to be undertaken to alleviate and mitigate such issues.
One of the major factors impeding the full implementation of the projects is the budget implications, given the high-cost of climate change mitigation.
Consequently, the President has tasked the different ministries and agencies to agree on a priority list of projects for the coming years with agreed funding.
He has also urged for the timely execution of those projects to minimise the impact of climate change on the population and infrastructure of the country.
