President Wavel Ramkalawan, chaired a scheduled meeting of the Cabinet yesterday, Wednesday 3rd April in which a number of policy memoranda were approved.
Cabinet was briefed on the fiscal performance for the year ended 31st December 2023. Economic performance in 2023 was overall positive and marked the continued recovery of key sectors with the nominal GDP growing at 3%. Budgetary performance by the end of 2023 was overall better than the forecast, with a primary surplus of 1.7 per cent of GDP recorded against a target of 0.0%.
Cabinet approved the proposed Land Use Plan for Anse Aux Pins. The Land Use Plan has been reviewed to guide the future development of the district. The plan identifies the various usage for which the land in the district will be used for. The LUP is set to act as a reference guide for prospective developers, to allow developers to know what kind of developments are suitable for a given area.
Cabinet approved for Seychelles to sign the Memorandum of Understanding on Zero‑Emission Medium- and Heavy-Duty Vehicles. In partnership with the Government of the Netherlands, CALSTART (a US-based non-profit), co-lead the Global Memorandum of Understanding on Zero Emission Medium- and Heavy-Duty Vehicles (Global MoU) to decarbonize the transport sector. The Global MOU sets a baseline ambition for all countries while encouraging individual countries to raise awareness.
Cabinet approved for the immediate resumption of Seychelles’ membership with the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) and to commit the necessary resources for active engagement and participation in IHO activities. Resumption of Seychelles’ membership will lead to enhanced maritime safety; provide opportunities for capacity building and sharing of expertise; and present economic opportunities for Seychelles.
Cabinet approved for the Ministry of Finance, National Planning and Trade to seek additional assistance from the US Treasury Office of Technical Assistance (OTA) to strengthen the governance and operational effectiveness of Public Enterprises in Seychelles.
