The President of the Republic, Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan who is also the Chancellor of the University of Seychelles (UNISEY), attended the 2022 graduation ceremony of students who have successfully completed their studies at certificate, diploma, advanced diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate degree levels. The ceremony was held yesterday afternoon at the University of Seychelles (UniSey) auditorium, Anse Royale.
A total of one hundred and thirty-four students graduated and received their Certificate of Achievement, and Certificate of Recognition from the University of Seychelles. They studied courses offered by UniSey or in partnership with the University of London, l’Université de a La Reunion, University of West of Scotland and the Guy Morel Institute (TGMI). The courses included; Certificate in General Management, Certificate in Office Management, Certificate in Public Procurement, Diploma in General Management, and Diploma in Public Finance Management undertaken with TGMI.
The President had the honour to present the best awardees with the Chancellor’s Special Recognition Award. This recognition represents the awardee’s excellent higher education journey and outstanding achievements at UniSey. Those awarded were June Joubert, Kelly Etienne. Andria Bastienne, Kelsy Gill, Trevor Monthy, Corrina Vadeau, Pamla Madeleine, Maria Fanchette, Travis Legaie, Denis Antat, Stephanie Bonte, Soumya Satheesan, Bertrand Loze, Shamad Japha, and Bianca Mazorchi. Each awardee received a Congratulatory Letter and an Ipad from the Chancellor.
In her address, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Seychelles, Ms. Joëlle Perreau, congratulated the graduates for their resilience, patience, open mindedness, perseverance and determination during the difficult years of study that they have had to endure.
“Graduation is always special because it is the moment where your hard work, sacrifices and dedication towards your chosen programme of study are compensated. It is the culmination of many years of lectures, assignments, examinations, projects, research, and late nights,” said Ms. Perreau.
She continued, “Class of 2022, you have acquired excellent qualities throughout the years spent at UniSey, equipping you to make a difference to changing lives and shaping our country for the better. With the mentorship, compassion and dedication of your lecturers, you have revealed your abilities to pursue extraordinary academic goals. Your great performances are to be especially noted. Even before officially graduating today, some of you had already received awards, recognition, congratulations for your excellent results from our partner universities.”
She further thanked the members of the UniSey Council for serving them with honour and giving distinguished and dedicated service. She also acknowledged the good collaboration with UniSey and underlined the continued support of the university as they forge ahead.
This year, amongst the 2022 cohort, eight graduates who have served on the Student Council, either as president, vice-president or members of the Council, were recognized for their devotion, commitment and engagement to UniSey.
Ms. Andria Bastienne received the S4S Colleen Morel Environmental Science Achievement Award. As is customary with UniSey graduation ceremonies, one graduate is selected for the Sustainability for Seychelles (S4S) Colleen Morel Environmental Science Achievement award. This award is given to a Seychellois student graduating with a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Science at the University of Seychelles each year. The criteria for such award is not limited to take such factors into account, being participation in UniSey and S4S’ life and activities, community volunteering/experience, academic achievement, and commitment to environmental sustainability on awarding the S4S Colleen Morel Environmental Science Achievement Award.
As for the Dean’s Award, Shamad Japha was awarded from the Faculty of Arts and Social Development, whilst Ms. Bianca Marzorcchi received the award from the Faculty of Business and Sustainable Development.
The ceremony was also attended by Ministers, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ted Barbe, Members of the National Assembly, and other distinguished guests.
