President Wavel Ramkalawan has graciously accepted to become the Chancellor of the University of Seychelles (UNISEY). This was announced this morning at State House, following a courtesy call the Chairperson of the UNISEY Council, Emeritus Professor Denis Hardy and the Vice-Chancellor of UNISEY, Ms Joelle Perreau.
“It is first and foremost an honor for me to be granted this opportunity of being the Chancellor of the University of Seychelles, as one of the institutions molding the minds of the future generation of our nation. I am greatly encouraged at the tenacity and vision of the new leadership of the University and would like to once again today pledge the full support of Government. I look forward to broadening our collaboration addressing some of the key challenges raised” said President Ramkalawan.
UNISEY as an institution entering its second decade since its inception on 2009, the meeting this morning was also an opportunity for the Vice-Chancellor, Ms Perreau to present a copy of UNISEY Strategic Plan 2022-2030 to the President. Discussions also centered on major plans and projects ahead as well as some of the key challenges impeding their work.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, both the Chairperson of the Council and the Vice-Chancellor on behalf of UNISEY expressed their appreciation to the Head of State for accepting the nomination and their pride of having a representative of the highest office in the country supporting them which will in return bring much need impetus and visibility to the work of UNISEY as the country’s national university. As the new Chancellor of the university, an official invitation has been extended to the President to visit the UNISEY campuses and its facilities.
