President Wavel Ramkalawan visited the Seychelles Breweries Limited at Le Rocher yesterday afternoon. The aim of his visit was for him to see the different facilities, to learn more about their plans and investment that Diageo is doing as well as meet the employees.
Upon arrival, the President was welcomed by the Managing Director, Mr. Conor NeilandAfrica Emerging Markets MD. Mr. Andrew Cowan and Africa Emerging Markets Finance Director, Mr. Ignacio Blazquez Salvador.
After a health and safety briefing, he was then given a guided tour of the brewery which included the O’Brien House, Engineering Department, Canning Line, Brew House, Quality Assurance Department, Glass Line, and PET Line. At each station, he was further explained the overall performance and general operation of the company.
Speaking to the local media after his visit, the President described the Seychelles Breweries as a partner for Seychelles. He commented on how the company has developed over the years with more equipment. From the briefing given he learned how they are planning to extend their products at the international level, which he said will be beneficial for the country economically.
“I was very impressed by the numbers of Seychellois workers in top managerial positions and also the number of Seychellois workers employed by the company. I was also briefed on their plan to have a visitor’s centre for foreigners and Seychellois as well, as another source of entertainment. I am very happy about the visit. My meeting with the management of Seychelles Breweries Limited was to give them the encouragement and that the Government will give them the support in their new venture,” said the President.
The President also commended Seychelles Breweries for how they empower the women, in the company, especially in managerial positions.
Seychelles Breweries Limited was established in the late 1960s and is part of the United Kingdom-based company Diageo. The company presently employed 160 employees.
