President meets Seychelles’ Chief Nursing Officer, Dr Gylian Mein at State House

President Wavel Ramkalawan received Seychelles’ Chief Nursing Officer, Dr Gylian Mein for a courtesy call at State House this morning. This follows her outstanding performance upon the completion of a professional doctoral degree with distinction from the Chamberlain University of Illinois, USA, following a three-year study.

Dr Mein is the first nurse in Seychelles ever to be awarded such a high professional qualification and recognition.

The President congratulated and commended Dr Mein on this remarkable academic achievement, whereby she has demonstrated the ability to dedicate herself to academic endeavour at the highest level. President Ramkalawan expressed hope that her achievement serves as a source of inspiration to other nurses and health workers in general to aim for further professional development.

“Seychelles is extremely proud of your achievements. We are grateful for all your years of dedication and contributions made through your professional career, with the hope that you will continue to work for the betterment of the profession and the country,” said the President.

Dr Mein joined the nursing profession as a student midwife in 1982 and later graduated as a nurse and midwife in 1986. She also holds a degree in nursing and a Masters in Midwifery and Women’s Health with Lancashire University since 2012.

Speaking to the local press, Dr Mein said despite numerous obstacles and challenges she persevered and today is proud to have succeeded to accomplish her all time dream. She took the opportunity to thank everyone who have supported over the years and believed in her capabilities.
