The new Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to the Republic of Seychelles H.E Mr. Peter Maddens, presented his credentials to President Wavel Ramkalawan at State House yesterday morning.
The President and Ambassador Maddens discussed a wide range of issues with a view to strengthen relations between Seychelles and Belgium.
“Seychelles is keen to further solidifying its engagements with Belgium in areas of mutual interest. We are looking forward to deepening our existing relations as well as exploring new areas of cooperation,” said President Ramkalawan.
On his part Ambassador Maddens said that he is looking forward to enhancing relations between the two countries and expressed hopes that Seychelles and Belgium can also develop cooperation in new areas, which will be mutually beneficial.
Possible areas of collaboration raised included further expanding academic opportunities between Belgium and Seychelles in the field of tourism, education, culinary, language and amongst others.
Also present for the meeting at State House was the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Mr Sylvestre Radegonde, the Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs Department, Amb. Vivianne Fock Tave and other Foreign Affairs Officials.
Ambassador Maddens was accompanied to State House by the Honorary Consul of Belgium in Seychelles Mr. Xavier Heinen.
Diplomatic relations between Seychelles and Belgium were established on 1st July 1976.
