The new ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to the Republic of Seychelles, H. E. Mr. Manuel Salazar Palma presented his credentials to the President of the Republic, Mr Wavel Ramkalawan at State House, yesterday morning.
President Ramkalawan congratulated the ambassador on his new posting and expressed hope that today’s accreditation signifies a new milestone in further strengthening the relations between Seychelles and Spain.
The President also commended Spain’s deployment and naval military contributions towards the EUNAVFOR Operation Atalanta, and expressed appreciation for the role that the European Naval forces are playing in the preservation of Maritime Security in the Western Indian Ocean.
“The sea contributes significantly to the development and prosperity of nations. Nowadays, many of the needs of our globalised world are met by the seas and oceans. Both Seychelles and Spain are maritime nations and places great emphasis on maritime security. Both countries recognise that there is a close link between the security of the seas and socio-economic development. Seychelles wishes to reiterate its request for support in relation to reinforcement of the capacity of national maritime security authorities, and law enforcement agencies” said the President.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, Ambassador Palma reaffirmed his governments engagement in expanding and advancing diplomatic relations to greater heights in various domains of mutual interest to both countries.
Ambassador Palma also paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-President, Mr Ahmed Afif.
Spain and Seychelles established Diplomatic relations on November 03rd 1978.
The Spanish ambassador will be based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
