President Wavel Ramkalawan accompanied by the Governor of Central Bank of Seychelles, Ms Caroline Abel welcomed the Executive Director from the World Bank Group, Mr. Taufila Nyamadzabo at State House, this morning.
The President formally welcomed Mr Nyamadzabo who is currently on official mission in Seychelles from 14 to 15 June accompanied by his Advisor, Dr. Azhari Elamin. President Ramkalawan availed of the opportunity to formally convey the country’s appreciation for the ongoing support provided by the World Bank to Seychelles, particularly during these dire times where many nations are grappling with the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the meeting discussions centred on the main interactions between the World Bank and Seychelles, highlighting pertinent subject matters such as budget support and other financial aid geared towards Seychelles’ post COVID-19 recovery. Other topics raised included the diversification of other key economic sectors for the benefit of the country.
As the Executive Director who represents Seychelles and its interest at the Board of the World Bank Group, Mr Nyamadzabo reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment in further strengthening the partnership between Seychelles and the World Bank. He also commended Seychelles for achievements made in relation to its National Vaccination Campaign of which currently is well ahead of numerous nations worldwide.
The World Bank, Africa Group 1 Constituency comprises of Botswana, Burundi, Eritrea, the Gambia, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
