President Ramkalawan and the First Lady attends inaugural ceremony of Club Med Seychelles

The President of the Republic, Mr Wavel Ramkalawan and the First Lady, Mrs Linda Ramkalawan were the guests of honour at the inaugural ceremony of Club Med Seychelles on Sainte Anne Island yesterday.

The most recent exclusive collection resort of the world-known brand Club Med which is nestled along the preserved Marine National Park, have around 400 employees including Seychellois. The resort which comprises of 295 rooms started to welcome its first guests in March this year with a soft opening process.

During the ceremony President Ramkalawan and the President of Club Med, Mr Henri Giscard d'Estaing cut the ceremonial ribbon to officially declare the resort open. 

Speaking to the local press after the ceremony, the President has welcomed the opening of Club Med Seychelles and says that this represents another milestone for Seychelles especially in this difficult time caused by global pandemic COVID-19. He noted that the opening will bring much publicity not only for Club Med but for Seychelles as a whole. Moreover it will bring along numerous job opportunities for many Seychellois.

“The inauguration of Club Med is of utmost importance. The world is still going through the effects of the pandemic. Seychelles has only re-opened its doors to tourists on 25th of March and for us to see the opening of a major chain of hotels at this particular time is just a dream a come true. This presents employment opportunities for our Seychellois and I want to call on all our citizens working at the hotel to take this opportunity seriously and to make Seychelles and Club Med proud,” said the President.

On his part, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Mr Sylvestre Radegonde has also welcomed the opening of Club Med Seychelles and has wished Club Med all success in establishing itself in Seychelles at the heart of the tourism industry.

The ceremony was also attended by government officials, diplomats, representatives of tourism bodies and staff of Club Med Seychelles.
