President Wavel Ramkalawan was presented with the credentials of the new Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to the Republic of Seychelles, H.E Mr. Ole Thonke, during an accreditation ceremony held this morning at State House. Ambassador Thonke was accompanied by Honorary Consul for Denmark in Seychelles, Mr Basil Soundy.
In welcoming Ambassador Thonke to Seychelles, President Ramkalawan congratulated him on his accreditation and gave his commitment and that of the government of Seychelles to jointly reinforce cooperation between Seychelles and Demark for the mutual benefits of both countries.
During the meeting, the President and Ambassador Thonke discussed the impact of COVID-19 globally as well as the vaccination programme taking place in Seychelles. They also reviewed the status of cooperation between the two countries and highlighted areas where they can further deepen cooperation nationally as well as at multi-lateral level, such as discussed in maritime security, climate change, tourism, human rights and its values, education and environment.
Ambassador Ole Thonke is based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Also present this morning was the the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Mr Sylvestre Radegonde, the Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr Marina Confait and Desk Officer for Denmark in the Department of Foreign Affairs, Zénab Kanté.
After the accreditation ceremony, H.E. Ambassador Thonke paid a courtesy call on Vice-President Ahmed Afif.
