The President of the Republic, Mr Danny Faure, chaired a meeting with relevant stakeholders this morning to provide the national media with a clear economic overview of the country. The meeting was held at STC Conference Room in line with public health guidelines.
The meeting follows a series of consultative sessions that the President has been chairing to ensure that stakeholders have up-to-date information and that there is consensus on the way forward. During the session this morning, there were presentations by the Principal Secretary for Finance, Mr Damien Thesee, the Governor of the Central Bank of Seychelles, Ms Caroline Abel and Principal Secretary for Economic Planning, Mrs Elizabeth Agathine, who provided a macroeconomic, fiscal and monetary policy overview of the situation in Seychelles.
The aim was to ensure journalists have the right tools to disseminate relevant information to the population, particularly in terms of raising awareness around what exactly is happening to the economy and making mindful financial decisions, such as careful spending and regular saving.
The presentations were followed by a question and answer session where the President and technicians on the panel answered queries about the economy and the way forward for Seychelles. It was expressed that more information should be provided to the local media to facilitate sensitisation. Journalists were provided with focal contact persons for each sector to ease the process.
The President reiterated the importance of the work of journalists and the media as the fourth pillar of society. He emphasised his commitment to continue upholding the importance of the media and urged journalists to leverage their responsibility for the betterment of Seychelles.
Present for the presentation and on the panel this morning was the Minister for Finance, Trade, Investment and Economic Planning, Mr Maurice Loustau-Lalanne, Principal Secretary at the Department of Information, Mr Denis Rose, the Secretary of State for Finance and also Chairperson of the FA4JR Committee, Mr Patrick Payet, the Governor of the Central Bank of Seychelles, Ms Caroline Abel, Economic Advisor to the President, Mr Bertrand Belle, the Principal Secretary for Finance Mr Damien Thesee, Principal Secretary for Economic Planning, Mrs Elizabeth Agathine and CEO of Agency for Social Protection, Mr Marcus Simeon.
