President Faure visits families affected by fire on Praslin

President Danny Faure visited the 17 families affected by a fire incident at Grand Anse Praslin on Saturday, which completely destroyed a private block of apartments. 
 
President Faure visited the affected families on Praslin yesterday evening, at their respective temporary lodgings. The 25 adults and 11 children are currently staying at various tourism establishments on Praslin including The Islander Guest House, Belle Vacance, and Praslin Holiday Home. Some are also staying with family members. Accompanied by the Minister for Family Affairs, Ms Mitcy Larue, the President briefed the families on the various structures Government has in place to help them rebuild their lives, including psycho-social support and counselling. Moreover, cooperation between various Departments and Agencies is ongoing to ensure the affected families are able to receive any required assistance as quickly as possible. 
 
President Faure commended the solidarity and support shown toward the victims of the tragic incident, and the way in which people have mobilised to offer assistance in various ways. In particular, he commended the district team at Grand Anse Praslin including the District Administrator, Member of National Assembly and Citizen Engagement Platform Society (CEPS) Representative for their swift action, and individuals, businesses and the Red Cross Society for their generous assistance since the accident. President Faure also made a donation to Red Cross Society in a personal capacity to help the affected families.
 
President Faure was accompanied on his visit by the Minister for Family Affairs, Mrs Mitcy Larue, Principal Secretary for Public Affairs at the President’s Office, Mrs Doreen Arnephy, the Grand Anse Praslin District Administrator, Mr Moses Barbe, and Praslin CEPS Representative, Ms Farida Camille.
