Following on from the meeting held last Saturday, President Danny Faure chaired a second consultative session with key representatives of Government and private sector at State House this morning.

Members reviewed proposals tabled during the last meeting and discussed various types of financial assistance and employment policies to support the private sector following the impact of COVID-19 on the economy. Representatives were also briefed on the ongoing implementation of the Financial Assistance for Job Retention programme (FA4JR).

President Faure announced the Government’s decision to extend the financial assistance scheme past June until 31 December 2020, guaranteeing the salaries of Seychellois employees in the private sector.

Other areas of discussion included the recently approved amendments to the Employment (Amendment) Act 2020, and other strategies to minimise redundancies and ensure stability in the country’s labour market, over and above financial protection.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday 26 May 2020.
