President Danny Faure received credentials from incoming Japanese Ambassador Ryoichi Horie during an accreditation ceremony at State House this morning.

President Faure extended a warm welcome to H.E Ambassador Horie and his delegation to Seychelles’ shores and congratulated him on the occasion of his accreditation. The President highlighted that Seychelles and Japan share a historical friendship which has culminated in a remarkable partnership, based on shared values, common ambitions and mutual respect.

“Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in June 1976, we have developed strong bonds of friendship and have enhanced collaboration at both bilateral and multilateral levels. As a result, Seychelles has a strong partner and friend in Japan. We are certain that during your tenure you will continue to deepen the collaborative ties across different sectors for the mutual benefits of our peoples. We wish you success in your tenure as the new Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Seychelles,” said President Faure.

During discussions President Faure and Ambassador Horie discussed existing and potential areas of cooperation in sectors such as Maritime Security, Tourism, Trade, Investment, the Blue Economy, and Capacity building.

On his part, Ambassador Horie thanked the President for receiving him and conveyed a special message on behalf of the Emperor of Japan expressing his country’s wish to further enhance friendly relations with the Seychelles, through the opening of the first Japanese diplomatic mission in Seychelles this week under the direction of the Japanese Chargé d'affaires, H.E Ambassador Makoto Tominaga.

Also present at State House for the accreditation was the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and the Blue Economy, Ambassador Barry Faure, the Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr Marina Confait, and other Foreign Affairs Officials.
