The President of the Republic, Mr Danny Faure, received Mr Patrick Victor at State House this morning where Mr Victor was presented with an Instrument of Appointment as an Honorary Cultural Ambassador.
The appointment was made in accordance with executive powers conferred on the President by Articles 66 and 62 of the Constitution.
This appointment is not the same as the appointment of Ambassadors to represent Seychelles abroad, for which there are different procedures. In his capacity as Honorary Cultural Ambassador, Mr Victor's function will be to promote the Seychellois culture locally, regionally and internationally.
Mr Victor's appointment takes effect immediately.
During this morning's meeting with Mr Victor, the President congratulated Mr Victor for the enormous contribution that he had made to Seychellois music and culture, and wished him the very best in his new role. He also took the opportunity to discuss various ongoing cultural projects that Mr Victor has been spearheading, particularly in sensitising and educating school children on Seychelles' history and culture, with a focus on our traditional music.
Speaking to the Press after his meeting with the President, Mr Victor said he felt honoured that his contribution and work for so many years in the domain of culture was being recognised. He spoke of the role he could play in giving back to society, further imparting his knowledge to Seychellois children and young people, whilst also preserving and promoting Seychelles’ cultural heritage both locally and internationally.
