President Danny Faure met with members of the Preserve Seychelles association at State House yesterday morning, who had formally requested to meet with him.

The association was launched in July 2019 with the aim to protect the sovereignty of the Seychelles including its environment and promote a ‘Seychelles First’ policy. The meeting was an opportunity for the members of the association to formally introduce themselves and to discuss with President Faure some of their concerns such as environmental policy, land allocations, and citizenship.

They also expressed their wish to collaborate with the Government as well as the National Assembly by bringing forward issues of national interest they feel are affecting the citizens.

During the meeting, they also presented President Faure with a report on their visit to Assomption Island, whereby they thanked him for facilitating their trip.

The President welcomed them to State House and noted that his office is always ready for consultation, and encouraged them to put forward any concerns. As an established association, they further stated that they would like to work with officials in the various ministries.

President Faure reiterated that the government will be the one to build the military facilities on Assomption Island, which will solely be occupied by the Seychelles Coast Guard. He highlighted once again the issues of illegal activities happening in the region, including drug smuggling and illegal fishing.

The members of the association present at State House this morning included Head of delegation and spokesperson, Mr Robert Grandcourt, Chairman, Mr Terry Sandapin, Secretary, Mrs Julia Morin, and other members, Mr Guynemer Corgat, Ms Shirley Otar, Mr Allen Hoareau, Mr Roy Finesse and Ms Anne Marie Isaac.
