President Danny Faure welcomed back Team Seychelles’ athletes who participated in the 10th Indian Ocean Islands Games (IOIG) at the International Airport today.
The President greeted and personally thanked all of the returning athletes for their hard work, perseverance and sacrifice, and giving their best. He said that every point scored, every medal won, was a victory and success achieved for the people and country of Seychelles.
He also thanked the coaching staff, commending them for their support and helping the athletes rise to the occasion and bring medals back to Seychelles, a source of pride for the nation. The delegation from IOIG consisted of 228 athletes, 147 males and 81 females, who were accompanied by 97 officials.
Team Seychelles competed in 13 events including football, basketball, volleyball, boxing, table tennis, weightlifting, athletics, yachting, swimming, judo, cycling, badminton and beach volleyball.
The athletes arrived back in Seychelles in two groups today on two Air Seychelles chartered flights at 1400 and 2030.
