Two new members of the Truth, Reconciliation and National Unity Commission, Arch-Bishop James Wong Yin Song and Mrs Marie-May Léon took their oaths as Commissioners of the Commission in the presence of the President of the Republic, Mr Danny Faure, during a swearing-in ceremony held at State House this morning
Arch-Bishop Wong and Mrs Léon could not attend the ceremony held on 9th May this year where 5 out of the 7 members appointed to the Truth, Reconciliation and National Unity Commission were sworn in.
Both of the two new Commissioners took two Oaths – The Oath of Allegiance and the Official Oath.
Archbishop James Wong Yin Song is currently the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Seychelles. He is also the Archbishop and Primate of the Anglican Church of the Indian Ocean since August 2017. Archbishop Wong is the Vice Chair of the Seychelles Interfaith Council and has its support to serve on the Commission.
Ms Marie-May Leon is a Teacher and specialist in special and inclusive education by profession. She currently holds the position of Director General in the Social Affairs Department of the Ministry of Family Affairs. For the last ten years she has been holding managerial positions and she is well-versed with human rights, as she has been involved in such work.
Also present for the ceremony at State House was the Vice President, Mr Vincent Meriton, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Nicholas Prea, the Leader of Government Business in the National Assembly, Hon. Charles De Comarmond, The Attorney General, Mr Frank Ally, the Ombudsman, Mrs Nicole Tirant Gherardi, Secretaries of State, members of the Constitutional Appointments Authority and other distinguished guests.
