President Danny Faure will join other world leaders in Cork, Ireland, for the annual Our Ocean Wealth Summit, and SeaFest, Ireland’s largest maritime festival, this weekend. President Faure has been invited as a key note speaker at the invitation of the Government of Ireland. During his visit, he will meet with the President of Ireland, Mr Michael D. Higgins.
Following Ireland’s Our Ocean Wealth Summit, President will travel to Washington D.C. in the United States of America to accept the National Geographic Society’s prestigious ‘Planetary Leadership Award’, which he has been awarded together with former President James Michel. This award recognises a world leader who has successfully established globally significant protected areas, such as marine reserves, that are fully protected from exploitation.
During his visit to Washington D.C., the President will also meet with high-level officials at the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation. President Faure will then proceed to New York, where he will meet the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr António Guterres.
President Faure will be out of office from Friday 7 June 2019 to Monday 17 June 2019.
