State House has announced that in view of the divergent opinions expressed, and the huge public interest in debates on the matter that President Danny Faure had referred to the Electoral Commission on 28th May 2019, the President had directed the Attorney General to prepare and draft clear and unambiguous enabling legislation relating to the holding of referenda in Seychelles, and to place the Bill before the National Assembly by the end of June.
Meanwhile, the President said that he had written another letter to the Electoral Commission on 31st May 2019, withdrawing the matter referred to the Commission on 28th May.
The President said that as soon as the new legislation had been passed and assented to, he would refer the matter afresh to the Electoral Commission for the holding of a referendum.
The President emphasised that the matter in question was one of such huge national and constitutional importance that it warranted being put directly to the electorate for the people of Seychelles to decide.
