The President of the Republic, Mr Danny Faure, received the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Assistant Director General and Regional Director for Africa, Mrs Cynthia Samuel-Olonjuwon, for a courtesy call this afternoon at State House. 

Mrs Samuel-Olonjuwon is currently in Seychelles attending the ILO Regional Meeting being held under the theme “Creating a Sustainable Future of Work and a Just Transition towards a Blue Economy in African Island States” from 7 to 9 May. 

On behalf of government and the people of Seychelles, the President expressed the country’s appreciation for the excellent relations that exist between Seychelles and the ILO.  

“Since our diplomatic relations started in 1977, we have maintained excellent ties through cooperation in various areas, particularly in the collaborative work to develop the Second Decent Work Country Programme 2019- 2023. We are very grateful and would like to give due recognition to ILO’s financial and technical support. We are also grateful for the key role that ILO is playing around the world in promoting rights at work, enhancing social protection, and strengthening dialogue on work-related issues,” said President Faure.

The meeting was an opportunity to discuss pertinent issues such as the Labour Migration Policy, school to work transition, and new possible avenues of cooperation.

During the meeting, Mrs Samuel-Olonjuwon commended the President on being recognised as the Champion for the Blue Economy in Africa and for speaking up on important issues not only in the African continent but the global community.

Mrs Samuel-Olonjuwon was accompanied to State House by the Director of ILO Country Office for Madagascar, Mr Coffi D. Agossou.

Also present for the meeting at State House was the Minister of Employment, Immigration and Civil Status, Mrs Myriam Telemaque, and other officials from the Department of Employment and Department of Foreign Affairs.
