The President of the Republic, Mr Danny Faure, visited the Takamaka Primary School this morning. As one of the best performing schools in Seychelles and for its continued excellent performance in the Primary Six National Examinations, the teachers and the students had the privilege to be the first school to be visited by the Head of State this year.
President Faure was welcomed to the school by the Head Teacher, Mrs Magda Rose, and the Chairperson of the School Council, Dr Justin Valentin. The visit began at the crèche headed by the Crèche Coordinator, Ms Amanda Albert. The President had the opportunity to visit both year one and year two classrooms, and observe lessons in progress and interact with both teachers and children during class.
The President also visited the Takamaka Day Care Center currently under construction. He was accompanied by the Director General for Project Planning and Maintenance from the Department of Local Government, Mr Daniel Adeline, who shared details of the progress for the new Day Care project due for completion in August 2019. The facility is expected to cater for 60 children and its location near the Primary school is an advantage for parents with children attending the Takamaka Primary School.
The President proceeded to visit the rest of the school premises where he stopped by various classes as well as other school facilities such as the dental services, multi-purpose court, and staff room.
Following the tour, President Faure attended a meeting with the school management where he congratulated the team for being the best performing Primary School in Seychelles. He initiated discussions to potentially launch a project to showcase Takamaka Primary School as a Model School. “I would like to thank you all for the hard work, for the exemplary leadership and for ensuring the education of our future generation remains a priority. It is my wish to see the Takamaka Primary School play a leading role in showcasing its best practices, so that other schools in Seychelles can emulate and cultivate the same successful model,” said President Faure.
On behalf of the School, the Head Teacher thanked the President for visiting them and for the continuous engagement and support. Along with the School Council Chairperson, the Head Teacher committed to continue to elevate the standard of teaching and learning as well as sharing their successful school culture with their fellow educators.
