President Danny Faure received UN Resident Coordinator for Seychelles, Ms Christine N. Umutoni, at State House today.
The President welcomed Ms Umutoni to Seychelles once again. On behalf of Government, he conveyed Seychelles’ continued commitment to the agenda of the United Nations.
The focus of discussion between the President and Ms Umutoni was on the current UN reforms, where Ms Umutoni currently represents the Secretary General of the UN at a senior level. Ms Umutoni also briefed the President about the progress made on implementing the Strategic Partnership Framework for the 2019-2023 period, signed between United Nations (UN) and the Government of Seychelles, and the first United Nations Country annual retreat to be held in Seychelles from 18 to 19 April 2019.
The UN Resident Coordinator also spoke about the possibilities for regional initiatives that address issues specific to Small Island Developing States, such as climate change and the previous report on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Also present at the meeting was the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and the Blue Economy, Ambassador Barry Faure, and First Secretary in the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ms Wendy Isnard.
