The President of the Republic, Mr Danny Faure, met the Special Envoy of the Government of Ireland, H.E. Ambassador Kenneth Thompson, at State House today. Ambassador Thomspon is currently on an official visit to seek the support of the government of Seychelles for Ireland’s candidature as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2021-2022 in elections to be held in June 2020.
Ambassador Thompson was accompanied on this mission to Seychelles by Irish Ambassador accredited to Seychelles, H.E. Mr Paul Sherlock.
President Faure welcomed Ambassador Thompson to Seychelles and conveyed his best wishes and that of the people of Seychelles to the government and people of Ireland. He highlighted that Seychelles and Ireland share excellent relations and expressed his hope that both countries renew their commitment to elevating bilateral cooperation to new heights.
The President and Ambassador Thompson discussed matters of mutual interest including the challenges facing Small Islands Developing States (SIDS) and climate change.
Also present at the meeting at State House was the Director General for International Relations at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Mrs Lindy Ernesta, and Second Secretary in the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ms Zénab Kanté.
