As part of his weekly visits to institutions, President Danny Faure, this morning, visited different Departments within the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change. The President was welcomed by the Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate Change, Mr Wallace Cosgrow; Principal Secretary for Environment Department, Mr Alain Decomarmond; and Principal Secretary for Energy and Climate Change, Mr Wills Agricole.
The President’s visit began at the Programme Coordinating Unit at Le Chantier Mall, Victoria where he was given a guided tour by the Programme Coordinator, Ms Elke Talma.
The delegation then proceeded to English River, where the President visited the Department of Energy and Climate Change, which includes the Climate Science and Data Section and Climate Change Adaptation Management Section, under the leadership of Mr Wills Agricole.
President Faure also visited the Department of Environment, at the Aarti Chamber and Botanical Gardens, Mont Fleuri, under the responsibility of Principal Secretary, Mr Alain Decomarmond, where he met staff in the Biodiversity Conservation and Management Division, Forestry Section, Environment Assessment and permits Section, Enforcement Unit and Laboratory.
At the Botanical Gardens, President Faure also met staff of the Administration Division, including the Legal Section, Public Education and Community Outreach offices, Human Resource, Documentation Centre and Finance and Account Section.
During his tour, he was briefed on the status of those departments and the staff discussed the progress they have made as well as existing challenges, particularly manpower, resources, schemes of service and office space.
At the end of the visit, the President chaired a meeting with the Minister and his management team.
