President Faure receives former IMF Mission Chief

President Faure received Mr Paul Mathieu at State House today, ahead of the upcoming Symposium on Economic and Social Transformation tomorrow which will mark 10 years since Seychelles embarked on the IMF Reform Programme.

Mr Mathieu is in the country at the invitation of President Danny Faure to participate in the Symposium. He is currently an Advisor in the Monetary and Capital Markets Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

President Faure welcomed Mr Mathieu once again to Seychelles and thanked him for the crucial role that he played leading the IMF mission to Seychelles 10 years ago, when the global economic crisis of 2008 compelled the country to embark on a comprehensive macroeconomic reform programme, together with the IMF, the World Bank, the African Development Bank and the European Union.

Speaking to the press after his meeting with President Faure, Mr Mathieu said that Seychelles did an incredible job with the reform. He described it as “the quickest and most amazing reform in history”. He said that in his intervention at the Symposium tomorrow, it will be an opportunity to review the reforms, its successes, and lessons for the future.
