The High Commissioner of the Republic of Ghana to the Republic of Seychelles, H.E. Mr George Ayisi-Boateng, presented his credentials to President Danny Faure at State House this morning.

The President congratulated High Commissioner Ayisi-Boateng on his appointment and expressed his wish to deepen their diplomatic relations by exploring new avenues of cooperation for mutual benefit.

The President and the High Commissioner reviewed the longstanding historical relationship that Seychelles shares with Ghana, dating back to 1900 when King Prempeh of the Ashanti was exiled in Seychelles for up to 24 years. Some of his descendants continue to live in Seychelles.

During the discussion, President Faure emphasized the commitment of Seychelles to strengthening relations with Ghana and developing new areas of cooperation.

Following the accreditation ceremony, High Commissioner Ayisi-Boateng described his meeting with the President as very cordial and said that he is committed during his tenure to take the relationship between Seychelles and Ghana to the next level, especially in the field of education, fisheries, and tourism.

Also present during the meeting was the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Barry Faure and First Secretary, Department of Foreign Affairs, Ms Patsy Moustache.

The Ghanaian High Commissioner will be based in Pretoria, South Africa. Seychelles and Ghana established formal diplomatic relations on 10 October 1988 and High Commissioner Ayisi-Boateng is the third High Commissioner to be accredited to the Republic of Seychelles.
