President Danny Faure met with President Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, at the Great Hall of the People today to discuss bilateral cooperation and issues of mutual concern.
The two Presidents exchanged views on the long-standing friendship between the two countries and agreed that the bilateral meeting has given a new impetus to the Seychelles-China relations, and would chart the way forward for increased cooperation and a new era in the relations between the two countries.
During his discussions with his Chinese counterpart, President Faure thanked China for having been a key partner in the socio-economic and infrastructural development of Seychelles. He added that he looked forward to an excellent working relationship with President Xi Jinping and hoped that this visit, his first to China since assuming office, would play a key role in elevating the ties between the two countries to greater heights. President Faure also reaffirmed Seychelles’ commitment to the One China Policy.
On his part, President Xi Jinping welcomed President Faure and his delegation to Beijing, saying, ‘You are an old friend of the Chinese people, and this bilateral meeting and the FOCAC Summit aims to build an even stronger partnership. I would like to commend you and Seychelles for all that has been achieved, and we are prepared to work with you to elevate our cooperation to new heights.’
