State House has announced that the President of the Republic has appointed Judge Ronny Govinden as the Acting Chief Justice for the period 23rd July to 12th August 2018, upon the recommendation of the Constitutional Appointments Authority.

This follows the decision of Chief Justice Mathilda Twomey to take her annual leave during this period in anticipation of the commencement of the proceedings of the Tribunal of Inquiry appointed by the Constitutional Appointments Authority to investigate complaints of alleged misbehaviour against her.
