The new ambassador of the Russian Federation to Seychelles, Ambassador Vladimir Belous, presented his credentials to President James Michel at State House this morning.
President Michel expressed the hope that Seychelles and Russia will reinforce the excellent relations that already exist between the two countries and that the new ambassador of the Russian Federation to Seychelles will add impetus to build and enhance new areas of cooperation.
The President and Ambassador Belous discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest such as tourism, investment, cultural exchanges, and military cooperation.
Ambassador Belous noted the fruitful cooperation that Seychelles and Russia have in the fight against piracy, human trafficking and organized crime. He commended the President for Seychelles’ mediation and leadership in the political crises that was faced by Madagascar.
“My ambition is to bring more tourists to Seychelles and more investment in this important sector for the Republic of Seychelles. As such, this will create more work opportunities for Seychellois. I hope to improve relations and understanding between our two countries,” said Ambassador Belous.
Ambassador Belous, is the 9th Russian ambassador to be accredited to Seychelles and is a resident ambassador.
The Republic of Seychelles and Russia established diplomatic relations in June 1976.
