President James Michel met with student members of the Wildlife Clubs of Seychelles (WCS) at State House this afternoon who took part in an Earth Day postcards competition initiated by the Seychelles Islands Foundation.
Also present was the Chairman of the Wildlife Clubs of Seychelles, Mrs. Michelle Martin, Technical Adviser Environmental Education in the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Mrs. Jeanette Larue, Rowana Walton and Calum Ferguson representing the Seychelles Islands Foundation, Coordinator for Wildlife clubs, Mr. Terence Vel and Wildlife Leader, Ms. Christel Jacques.
To commemorate the Earth Day celebrated on the 22nd April 2013, the students were encouraged to design a postcard for the President of the Republic of Seychelles with a special message which they presented to him personally.
"I would like to thank you for writing postcards to me about your views on climate change and the conservation of the environment. I can see that you really care about the environment of our country.... The Wildlife Clubs of Seychelles teach you to love nature, to preserve what God has given to us, and to guarantee the protection of the future of our environment. I urge more young people to join the Wildlife Clubs, and to learn how to love nature," said President Michel.
The Chairman of the Wildlife Clubs of Seychelles, Mrs. Michelle Martin explained that the members wanted to send out the message on this day that they are ready to be environmentally friendly citizens. She said that the young people care for and love the environment.
The students said they were happy to meet the President personally and afterwards they were given a brief tour around the garden of State House.
