Mr Andre Uzice, described by President James Michel as ‘a pioneer of politics,’ passed away this week.
Mr Uzice was a Minister in Former President James Mancham’s government and also leader of a political party at the reintroduction of multi-party politics in 1992.
“It is with deep sadness that I have learnt of the death of your husband, André. His demise is not only a great loss for you, your family and relatives but also for our country,” President Michel said yesterday in a message of sympathy to the family of Mr Uzice.
“I knew André well and respected him for his convictions and principles. He was a great son of Seychelles, a pioneer of politics and a patriot who was a source of inspiration to many of his generation.
“A gentle and compassionate man, André will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will live on. I am deeply sorry for your great loss and share your grief, as does the whole nation which is united with you in sorrow,” said the President.
