August 16, 212 -- Dr Joost Reintjes is the new ambassador of the Netherlands to Seychelles.

He presented his credentials to President James A Michel at State House on 14th August 2012.

Speaking to the media after the ceremony, Dr Reintjes said a number of Dutch vessels have called at Port Victoria as part of the war against piracy. More navy ships will sail to Seychelles as the fight against piracy is stepped up.

His country is contributing  300,000 euros towards the setting up of the Regional Coordination Centre against piracy, being built in Victoria.

According to Dr Reintjes, Seychelles is viewed by Dutch tourists as an exclusive destination that is particularly popular among honeymooners.

Some 40 Dutch nationals are working in Seychelles.
