The UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative for Mauritius and Seychelles, Mrs. Leyla Tegmo-Reddy,  paid a farewell call on President James Michel at State House yesterday afternoon following a two and half year tenure in the post.

President James Michel thanked Mrs. Tegmo-Reddy for her hard work to increase the projects of the United Nations in Seychelles and wished her every success in her future endeavours.

Mrs Leyla Tegmo-Reddy congratulated the President on the progress Seychelles has made in its  social and economic development, and said that the United Nations greatly appreciates the cooperation it has with Seychelles.

“Seychelles is doing so well in so many areas. It has the highest Human Development Index in all the countries in Africa. It is also doing very well on the Millennium Development Goals, most of them have been reached already. I congratulated him on the fact that there is the 5th largest proportion of women in government. We also discussed how Seychelles is a champion in the environment field, on the eve of the Rio +20 discussions ,” said Mrs. Tegmo-Reddy.

Mrs. Tegmo-Reddy also thanked the President for writing to the Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, asking the United Nations system to work in the mode of ‘delivering as one,’ which means to work much closer together for a better impact in each country.
