October 6, 2010 -- The new ambassador of Cyprus to Seychelles is Mr Agis Loizou.
He presented his credentials to President James A Michel at State House yesterday. The new ambassador told the national media after the ceremony that cooperation between Seychelles and Cyprus is expected to increase in various areas, especially in education where more scholarships are to be made available.
The two countries have strong historical links dating back to the mid-1950s when Archbishop Makarios who later became the President of Cyprus, was exiled in Seychelles.
Ambassador Loizou said that during his mandate he will work towards implementing all the agreements the two countries have signed up to now. According to Mr Loizou, Cyrpus has signed more agreements with Seychelles than with any other African country.
The Cypriot ambassador is base din Nairobi, Kenya.
The honorary consul in Seychelles is Mr Panos Papanokinos.
