On the third Tuesday of every March, we join the international community to celebrate World Social Work Day. We celebrate and recognise social workers as champions for social justice, self-determination and human rights.
Today, citizens and social workers worldwide stand together to celebrate the achievements of this noble profession. This year’s theme ‘Promoting the Importance of Humans Relationships’, focusses on the social relationships between people’s essential relationships with each other, their environments and their futures. These social relationships determine the quality and security of our lives, and the social work profession has a crucial role in promoting the importance of building practices that recognise, cultivate and enrich our interdependent relationships.
Today we show our gratitude to all social workers for their commitment to bringing about positive social change, helping individuals of all ages succeed, and being an advocate for those who have lost their voice. Social workers play a prominent role in improving the lives of vulnerable people that need support, and today we say thank you.
More than ever before, Seychelles needs individuals committed to making a difference in the lives of people. We need to ensure Seychelles continues to build a strong social development agenda for the upcoming decade as we continue to face modern-day challenges.
Government, through the Ministry of Family Affairs will continue to listen to the needs of social workers and to implement policies that better prepare social workers for their role and responsibilities.
As the country prepares to undertake bold initiatives to tackle social issues head-on, I urge social workers to continue to be dynamic agents of change in this process.
As we mark this important date in Seychelles, I wish all social workers past and present a very Happy Social Work Day, and I thank you for your hard work and dedication.
