Today, we join the international community to celebrate World Social Work Day, and stand together to recognise the tremendous achievements of social workers all around the world.
This year’s theme is “Promoting Community and Environmental Sustainability” which relates to the third pillar of the Global Agenda for Social Work and Social Development. Today, we unite with social workers to take this theme message into our communities, workplaces, and homes to raise awareness on the important contributions of social work.
We are grateful to all social workers in Seychelles for their commitment to bringing about positive social change, helping individuals of all ages succeed, and advocating for those who have lost their voice. Social workers play a prominent role in improving the lives of those who need it most, and we owe them a big thank you.
More than ever before, Seychelles needs individuals who are committed to making a difference to the lives of people in their communities. Seychelles needs to continue building a social work and social development agenda for the upcoming decade as our country continues to battle modern day challenges.
The Government of Seychelles, through the Ministry of Family Affairs, will continue to listen to the needs of social workers and to implement policies that will enable social workers to be better prepared for their role. There is an urgent need to relook at strategies to retain our social workers and improve their working conditions, so that they remain in this line of work. We also recognise the need to attract new talents to this noble profession.
As the country prepares to undertake bold and modern initiatives to tackle various social issues, I urge social workers to continue to be dynamic agents of change through this process.
As we commemorate this important day, I wish all social workers past and present in Seychelles a very Happy Social Workers’ Day and thank them sincerely for their service.
