On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, 5th October, 2017
“Teachers at the heart of change”
The 5th of October, 2017 marks 27 years of the Seychelles, as a country, celebrating the influence of teachers in the lives of our people.
The teaching profession drives the learning of a nation which culminates in the socio-economic growth of a country.
The only thing that is constant in life is change. Change that permeates all aspects of our society, makes demands on our people to grow, to learn and to adapt. Teachers as engineers of tomorrow are at the heart of change.
Teachers have a responsibility to teach our children the skills and to impart the knowledge that will allow them to become hard working and innovative citizens to continue to drive this nation forward.
Teachers at the heart of change have a responsibility to coach our children to make right decisions for themselves, their neighbor and the country.
Teachers at the heart of change are confided our children to nurture them to be morally adept and strong to stand tall in the face of challenges; to come down and lend a helping hand to raise the ones who have fallen by the wayside.
Because of these important responsibilities, we as a country, we as a nation need to continue to honour our teachers. We need to show them the respect they deserve and an appreciation for the challenging task they have.
The Government of Seychelles, through the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development will continue to listen to the needs of teachers and to implement policies that would enable teachers to be better prepared for their role. We will continue to set strategies to incentivize our teachers to remain in the profession and to attract new talents into this great and noble family of educators.
As the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development prepares to undertake its next series of reforms, I urge teachers to be dynamic agents of change in this process.
As we mark the 27th anniversary of teachers’ day in Seychelles, I wish all teachers past and present a very Happy Teachers Day.
I urge parents and students to support our teachers in their duty.
I call upon all teachers to remember always the positive impact they have on our children and our country and to continue to work hard in this noble mission.
