President Wavel Ramkalawan chaired a scheduled meeting of the Cabinet today, Wednesday 11th August, at which a number of legal and policy memoranda were considered.
Cabinet approved for the repeal of the Unemployment Relief Scheme (URS) Act, 1995. Cabinet noted that opportunities for reskilling and retraining were already being offered to job seekers depending on their requirements. Members of the public who are not in employment would also be encouraged to register at the Employment Department.
Cabinet also approved legislation to classify Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (commonly referred to as ecstasy) as a Class A drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act, 2016. “Ecstasy” is currently classified as a Class B drug.
Cabinet approved a governance arrangement for the Seychelles Marine Spatial Plan (SMSP). The SMSP will for the time being fall under the purview of the Environmental Protection Act (2016). An alternative governance arrangement may be considered in due course.
Cabinet approved the enactment of the Seychelles Maritime Safety Authority (Administrative Issuances) Regulations, 2021 which will provide for the legality of Administrative Issuances by the Seychelles Maritime Safety Authority. This enactment will allow for timely and effective implementation and promulgation of International Maritime Instruments as well as other relevant legislations for implementing the mandates of the SMSA.
