President Wavel Ramkalawan chaired a scheduled meeting of the Cabinet today, Wednesday 14th April, at which a number of legal and policy memoranda were considered.
Cabinet approved for the introduction of a Tax Amnesty programme.
Cabinet approved amendments in legislations to allow for the application of exemption from payment of import taxes, applicable on goods specifically designed or modified for the use of a person with disability. This would also cease the use of the special fund for such assistance.
Cabinet also approved the enactment of a new Excise Tax Act and supporting subsidiary legislations.
Cabinet approvedthe repeal of the Registration of Associations Act, 1959 and the drafting of a new Registration of Associations Act.
Cabinet also approved the Secured Transactions (Filing of Notices of Security Interest) Regulations 2021. The Regulations will provide administrative guidance to the servicing of the Collateral Database Registry, including filing of notice, searching of collateral database, fee administration and other miscellaneous areas.
Cabinet approved the Civil Status (Amendment) Bill, 2021.
Cabinet approved the Inquest into Death Bill, 2021.
