President Danny Faure chaired two extra-ordinary meetings of the Cabinet on Tuesday 28th and Wednesday 29thApril at which a number of legal and policy memoranda were considered.
Cabinet was updated on the latest situation concerning the COVID-19 pandemic globally and locally. The strategy to be implemented as the country return to the new normal was also elaborated upon.
Cabinet was also apprised of the risks, challenges and opportunities facing the country and its economy post COVID-19. Further discussions will be undertaken before a final plan is presented to Cabinet for approval.
Cabinet approved amendments to the Employment Act, 2020 to introduce negotiation procedure for deferment of payment or reduction of wages and to suspend the right of employer to initiate negotiation procedure.
