Vice President Vincent Meriton chaired a scheduled meeting of the Cabinet on Thursday morning, 16th August, at which a number of legal and policy memoranda were considered.
Cabinet approved amendments to the Environment Protection (Miscellaneous) Regulations 2018. The amendments provide for the administration procedures and adjustment of fees for the enforcement of the Environment Protection Act.
Cabinet also approved measures proposed by the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change to eliminate use of single use plastic products and promote more green practices in Government.
Cabinet considered a proposal to establish a Family Court in Seychelles. Cabinet advised that wider public consultations be done before a decision was taken on the way forward.
Cabinet approved for the Ministry of Health to enter into an agreement with SIMS Hospital in Chennai for the overseas diagnosis and treatment of Seychellois patients. The contract will be signed once the Department of Legal Affairs had vetted the terms of the agreement.
Cabinet also endorsed recommendations made by the Seychelles National Parks Authority to improve the management of nature trails.
Cabinet was also briefed on a maritime accident involving drowning off the coast of Cote D’Or Praslin which occured late in the night of 15th August.
