President Danny Faure chaired a scheduled meeting of the Cabinet on Wednesday morning, 18th July, at which a number of legal and policy memoranda were considered.
Cabinet approved for amendments to be made to the Elections Act in order to create the post of Chief Executive Officer for the Electoral Commission. This amendment will separate the role of chairperson of the Commission from that of the chief executive function.
Cabinet also considered and approved action plans for the review of the Non-Profit Organisation sector and the Registration of Association Act 1959.
Cabinet approved the amendments to the Animal and Plant Biosecurity Act, 2014 and designated the National Biosecurity Agency as the competent authority responsible for enforcement of the law.
Cabinet also approved the proposed regulations concerning the Contractual Obligations of Students, Parents, Teachers and School Leadership in Education. The social contract clearly identifies the roles and responsibilities of each partner in the education process.
Cabinet endorsed recommendations for Seychelles to ratify the UN protocol to Eliminate illicit trade of tobacco products. The proposal will be presented to the National Assembly for approval.
Cabinet also considered and approved amendments to the National Monuments Act of Seychelles, 1980.
Cabinet considered the report submitted by the Review Committee on the review of the Public Service Salary Act, 2013 and approved in principle the recommendations of the Committee to amend the salary table. The Ministry of Finance, Trade, Investment and Economic Planning has been tasked with the responsiblity to assess the proposal from a budget perspective and to recommend the implementation schedule.
Cabinet considered and approved the framework for the setting up of the Technical and Vocational School for middle secondary students on Ile Soleil.
Cabinet was briefed on the status of implementation of the Recognition of Prior Learning in Seychelles. Cabinet gave support to its full implementation.
