Seychelles and Maldives discuss common challenges and avenues of cooperation as two neighbouring Island States

Monday 6th March Doha, Qatar: As two island countries that not only share an ocean but also with the common determination and vision to advocate for common Small Island Developing State’s agenda, the President of the Republic of Seychelles, Mr Wavel Ramkalawan and the President of the Republic of Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met on the sidelines of 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries being held in Doha, Qatar.

Since the establishment of diplomatic ties in July 1980, Seychelles and the Maldives enjoy longstanding strong bonds of friendship. As two small Island States facing similar challenges and opportunities, the discussions between the two Heads of State focused on the challenges and prospects faced by Small Island Nations and how the two countries can further consolidate their ties.

It is to be noted that Ambassador Claude Morel recently presented his credentials as the non-resident High Commissioner of Seychelles to the Maldives to President Solih.

Both leaders agreed the two countries should engage in frequent dialogues with the aim of uncovering new avenues for future cooperation.
