President Faure receives the Deputy Chief Executive Officer Barclays Bank Africa Group

President Danny Faure received the Deputy Chief Executive Officer Barclays Bank Africa Group, Mr. Peter Matlare, at State House this morning.

He was accompanied by the Managing Director Barclays Bank (Seychelles), Mr Johan Van Schalkwyk and Chairman Barclays Bank Board, Mr. Jean Weeling-Lee. Also present was the Governor of Central Bank, Ms Caroline Abel.

The meeting centred on Barclays Bank’s commitment and strategies that they are developing as they continue to transform and invest in Seychelles. Mr. Matlare further explained the transition that will be taking place over time now that the Barclays Africa Group Limited has decided to change its name to Absa Group Limited.

The President welcomed him and said that the rebranding will bring new innovations to the banking sector in Seychelles. As a partner to the government, he highlighted the importance for good partnership and how the bank can play a key role in empowering various groups in the community namely the youths, having women in key positions and others.

Along with the rebranding, the group is embarking on a strategic direction with the aim of doubling its market share to 12% of African banking revenues, restore market-leading position in core business areas and continue to grow through innovation.

In an interview with the local media, Mr. Matlare explained that for Seychelles their clients is expecting a better service and innovative ways for Seychellois to further development specifically in the Education Sector.

“What we want to ensure for the Seychelles, our customer experience is better. That is, better technology and the ability to provide efficient banking. We are also committed in investing in projects and enhance education that allows new technology to be taught across the board in order for the Seychellois to continue to make their contribution. So, it’s an exciting partnership for us,” he said.

To note, Absa is currently the brand of the Barclays Africa Group’s South African brand and the rebranding announcement was made in March 2018.
