The President of the Republic of Seychelles, Mr Danny Faure received the first three Seychellois appointed Chief Engineers currently employed by Seychelles Petroleum Company Limited (SEYPEC) at State House this morning.
Martin Roucou, Nicholas Sinon and Neil Mathiot have been recruited, trained and employed by the national petroleum company over the past 9 to 12 years and have risen through the ranks to acquire the necessary Sea-time and academic studies to become Chief Engineers.
President Faure congratulated the three young Seychellois engineers on their achievements and thanked them for raising the Seychelles flag high. He urged them to continue working hard and to become an inspiration for other Seychellois youths.
“I would like to congratulate you all and express our sincere appreciation for your many years of sacrifice and dedication. Your achievements today, as the first batch of Seychellois Chief Engineers not only signifies the accomplishment of your dreams but it is also an accomplishment for our country, we are proud of you,” said President Faure.
During the meeting with the President, the three young Seychellois mariners shared some of their experiences during their journey as well as their plans for the future.
Mr Roucou, is 32 years of age from Anse Aux Pins. He is a full-fledged graduate from the Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI), Ireland. He had been named the outstanding student at the NMCI upon completion of his BSC Degree. He served in several positions in the Engineering Department of the SEYPEC tankers worldwide and was until recently the 2nd Engineer on board M/T Seychelles Pioneer.
Mr Sinon 30 years old obtained his Bachelor of Engineering in Marine & Plant Engineering from the National Maritime College of Ireland. He is a former student at Glacis Primary School and English River Secondary School. He has climbed the ladders to his present appointment when he was serving on board M/T. Seychelles Prelude.
Mr Mathiot 33 years old is a former Park Ranger of the Seychelles Centre for Marine Research and Technology and comes from La Retraite. He joined SEYPEC in 2008 and has since made his way to the top. As his two other colleagues, he graduated in Ireland and was assigned on board M/T Seychelles Pioneer until recently.
The Chief Engineers were accompanied on their visit to State House by the Chief Executive Officer of SEYPEC Mr Conrad Benoiton.
